Billed as a pilot the 2015 MDN Fellowship is a seven-week program which requires a 5-10 hour per week commitment from participants.

According to the announcement made earlier this month on Hacks.Mozilla the idea is to pair advanced web and mobile developers with engineering and educational experts at Mozilla to work on significant, influential web projects.

Successful applicants will be expected to:

1) build curriculum, code, or likely both

2) receive coaching training and best practices for effectively communicating and educating with technical information.

Fellows won't be paid but Mozilla will cover travel and accommodation costs to attend an Orientation session in early June prior to the rprgram's commencement on June 29.

The number of fellows hasn't been specified but five specific projects are outlined on the 2015 MDN Fellowship Program page, each of which has a mentor. The titles and  required skills are as follows:

TestTheWebForward    Experience and comfort writing Javascript test scripts

Service Workers Expertise in JavaScript, CSS, HTML as well as with efficient network interaction

WebGL Computer graphics experience with programmable shaders and the OpenGL, OpenGL ES, WebGL, or Direct3D APIs
Web App Performance Expertise in JavaScript, CSS, HTML with knowledge of server-side development, caching and network layers preferred
Curriculum Development Expertise in JavaScript, CSS, HTML and/or other key technologies. Proficient in written and spoken English.

The announcement concludes:

Consider this program if you want an opportunity to:

  • Amplify the impact of your technical expertise by contributing to influential, significant projects at Mozilla.

  • Stretch your technical expertise by working closely with Mozilla technical mentors.

  • Integrate educational best practices into your work with Mozilla teaching mentors.

The application form, to be submitted online by April 1st, asks for your Github profile, a link to your CV or summary of your professional experience, 200 words about what you would hope to contribute and a 2-minute video.
