Mozilla wants us move from using the web to making the web. It has launched Webmaker, an online project with new and existing tools from Mozilla and plans a summer of collaborative and community events.
Mozilla Webmaker aims to create an generation of webmakers by providing:
1) Tools including Popcorn for web video, Hackasaurus for remixing and, coming soon, Thimble for creating web pages.
2) Projects, how-tos and recipes, designed to help people at all levels - from tweaking your blog template to building apps
3) Community events, meet-ups and hack jams
Starting June 23rd Mozilla is joining with other organizations in its Summer Code Party in events that get would be web-coders to meet up to make and learn how to create websites together. Partners already include Tumblr, Creative Commons, Code for America, SoundCloud, the San Francisco Public Library and the London Zoo.
The growing list, and information about how to become involved is on the Summer Campaign 2012 page of the Mozilla Wiki.
Microsoft has just published a new white paper - Cancelling a project (without cancelling your career). Is it self help or does it intend to send us a message. Surely it cannot be serious?
