Google Home Your Personal Assistant

Among the biggest announcements on Day One of Google I/O 2016, taking place in Mountain View, home to Google, is Google Home, a voice-activated product that brings the Google Assistant to any room in your house.

Google Home is based on a new conversational Google Assistant which further's Google's mission:

“to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”

Combining search, voice recognition, natural language processing the Google assistant understands your world and helps you get things done. If you think you have come across this idea before, remember Amazon Alexa and in his keynote Sundar Pichia credited Amazon with pioneering the idea.

The Google Home device will compete with Amazon's Echo and, like Echo, it includes a speaker and is packaged in an object that can be placed unobtrusively around the home. Unlike Echo you are expected to have multiple devices in multiple rooms. Home is built on the Chromecast standard, which lets it push media to other Cast-compatible speakers and screens, change temperature or lighting through Nest devices, and integrate with services like Spotify for music streaming.

This promo video, described as an early preview of a product expected to launch later this year shows how family members will interact with Google Home in multiple rooms. It was greeted with enthusiasm with the audience at Google I/O and in his closing remarks Mario Queiroz hinted that there would be a lot more to share with the developer community about how to begin to integrate with the Google Assistant.

Google Assistant can also be summoned in the Allo Google's latest text-messaging app. Allo users will be able to use Assistant to find extra information or send auto-generated replies.
