The first public version of an IDE for the Ceylon language project has been officially released. The IDE, which, is delivered as an Eclipse plugin for the language, was engineered in less than six months with support from French Java specialist, SERLI.

Last month saw the Milestone 1 release of Ceylon, the  the language being developed as an open source JVM (Java virtual machine) compatible alternative to Java. Now the Ceylon IDE has also achieved its first release.

According to Gavin King, who initiated the Ceylon Project, the IDE

is a full-featured development environment for Ceylon, with I guess everything you use regularly in your Java IDE, including interactive error reporting, incremental build, syntax highlighting, proposals, quick fixes, refactoring, searching, wizards, hover help, debugging, and much more. It even has a major feature that your Java IDE doesn't have: deep integration with Ceylon's module and module repository architecture.
