WebGLStudio.js - 3D Development For The Web

Sooner or later everything will be written in JavaScript. Now we have WebGLStudio.js, which is a full 3D graphics suite written in JavaScript and fully open source.

The 3D editor is based on the LiteScene.js engine and runs in the browser. It supports multiple lights, shadowmaps, realtime reflections, custom materials, postFX, animation. It features a WYSIWYG editor, graph editor for behaviors, a virtual file system complete with quotas, users and shared folders. It is also easy to export and share, being web based you just share the link.

You can try it out on the WebGLStudio website and you can see it in action in the video below:

You can see its ability to do real-time animation in the following video:

The project was started by Javi Agenjo and the GTI Grafics Group at Universitat Pompeu Fabra Barcelona. Agenjo worked on the project for three years, full time, without any help. The LiteScene.js 3D engine is also his work and has been developed to meet the needs of WebGLStudio.js.

The project has only just hit GitHub and if you visit its page don't be alarmed by the stats - first commit and zero contributors. The licence is MIT. The code is ready to download and it is very easy to set it up on your own server.

One small problem is that the name WebGLStudio infringes the Khronos trademark so it will have to be changed at some point, which means the website location and GitHub name is going to change.
