If you’re creating an app that includes location information, Google has a new API for you to try.

Analytics for Google Maps API for Business lets you track the way the visitors to your website use the maps you provide. You can check for actions such as zooming and panning, and which map type the users prefer. You can also see the countries that users are requesting geocoding results for, and how often any JavaScript services you’ve provided are used.  The Analytics can be enabled without any changes to your current code, and all data is aggregated and made anonymous to protect users’ privacy.

The API can be used to view reports for map interactions, services, the Places, and Street View.

You can find out more about Analytics for Maps API for Business in the Maps API for Business Developer Guide.

Unlike the Google Maps API  which can be free, Google Maps API  for Business is a paid-for service and requires the purchase of the Maps API Premier costing from $10,000 per year.
