NetBeans IDE 7.4, which extends the HTML5 development support introduced in NetBeans IDE 7.3 to Java EE and PHP applications and offers new support for mobile web development on Android and iOS, has been officially released.

NetBeans is a free, open source, development environment primarily for Java Programmers that is available in English, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese.

According to the NetBeans IDE 7.4 Release Notes the new features of this version are:

  • HTML5 development for Android and iOS devices
  • HTML5 development in Java EE and PHP applications
  • Editing support for Knockout and AngularJS frameworks
  • Java SE 8 Support
  • Redesigned JavaFX support according to JDK 8 architecture

All of the features, particularly JavaFX support the  were discussed our coverage of the NetBeans 7.4 Beta, but now NetBeans has a video that outlines the features of the integrated development environment and looks at three of the new capabilities introduced in 7.4:

  • Integrate HTML5 into Java EE and PHP applications

  • Deploy applications to mobile devices

  • Work with early previews of JDK8

Support for Cordova (Phonegap) application development is one of the key features of this release and this screencast has been provided to help devs through the preliminary steps of installing Cordova and Git and setting up node.js  that need to be followed in order to get started on creating hybrid applications for Android, iOS and other mobile platforms.
