The latest version of the NetBeans IDE features a range of new tools for HTML5/JavaScript and supports mixed Java/C++ development. It is now available for download in beta.

NetBeans is thought of primarily as a Java development environment but it also a good way to work with HTML/JavaScript projects - and with Version 8.1 it is even better.

The major new feature is a Node.js project wizard which provides support for running and debugging Node.js applications:

There is additional support for AngularJS 1.2 and 1.3 and for Knockout.js for which there is now code completion for custom components. Other JavaScript frameworks that are now supported are Jade, Grunt and Gulp and for PHP developers support for Phing has been added.

There are several enhancements, including code completion, to the JavaScript Editor. The addition of conditional breakpoints in the JavaScript Debugger, code folding in the JSON Editor and Shadow DOM support and DOM breakpoints in Web application inspection are among a long list of other improvements.

For Java developers enhancements in Version 8.1 include a redesigned NetBeans Profiler for simplified tuning and profiling tasks and performance enhancements in Java search tools.

For C/C++ developers a new Project Wizard and Subversion, Git and Mercurial support in Remote mode top the list of enhancements and, for the first time, the IDE supports mixed Java/C++ development via new integration with Java Native Interface (JNI) and Java Native Access (JNA) technologies.
