Opportunity To Become a Glass Explorer

Google is inviting applications from US-based developers who want the privilege of purchasing Glass Explorer Edition headsets.

Although Google has not yet filled the orders for the limited Glass Explorer Edition that were placed at Google I/O 2012, it has now put a further 8,000 units of offer for developers.

The offer comes with strings, however. For a start it's restricted to US devs aged 18 and over and in addition those who are selected will have to attend in person at a "special pick-up experience" with a choice of  New York, Los Angeles, or the San Francisco Bay area as the locations. And, of course, this is an opportunity to pay the purchase price of $1,500 plus tax.

Those who want to apply need to come up with a creative idea that will convince an independent jury that the proposal is compelling, original, useful, and influential. And the deadline is February 27 so there's just a week in which to apply.

Up to three applications can be made on Google+ or Twitter using the hashtag #ifihadglass but only one invitation will be issued per person and they are not transferable to anyone else.

  • Your application must be 50 words or less
  • You must include #ifihadglass in your application
  • You can include up to 5 photos with your application
  • You can include a short video (15 secs max)

The downside of inviting entries on publicly on Twitter and Google+ is that your ideas are open to others to read.

Google has also produced  a new promotional video show-casing the experience and potential of this wearable device that provides a voice-controlled camera that sees what the wearer sees and has other capabilities such as whispering a translation in your ear.

So are you inspired to come up with an app that merits the expense of becoming a Google Glass Explorer?
