Application Developers Alliance

A new alliance for mobile developers is being launched this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The Application Developers Alliance describes itself as being 100% dedicated to helping devs build, test and ship great ideas.

If you’re attending CES this week, you’ll find the alliance in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center, and if you drop by the stand (and presumably join the alliance) you can pick up a members-only Alliance t-shirt - they obviously know their market, then!

The Application Developers Alliance promises to offer an online network with discussion forums focused on industry topics, and a profile system to share your work and interests with other members; free and discounted tutorials and certification programs, and discounts on cloud services from Rackspace. Future plans include the provision of product testing facilities. According to the Alliance website, from mid-2012:

“the Alliance will begin operating device labs in select cities so our members can test applications in real-time, on real devices. We’re partnering with manufacturers to make a wide array of devices available, from the newest phones and tablets to Smart TV’s and more. We’ll stay open late, stock energy drinks and large quantities of coffee, and be available for you when you’re ready to go.”

The deal with Rackspace is more immediately interesting, with the offer of 10% off Rackspace customised services.

The Alliance plans to generate income through sponsorship and membership fees, so if you think the Alliance sounds interesting, it’s probably worth joining now as 2012 membership is free if you sign up before the end of January.
