$25 for a Puzzle!

All you have to do is write up a programmer puzzle in our standard format and submit it by email.

If your idea is good enough we will publish it and send you $25 to say thanks. If it needs a bit more work we may ask you to polish it first. Before you send in a puzzle in check that we haven't already published one similar. If in doubt the email us  and ask - this also makes sure we haven't one in the pipeline ready to publish. It is also a good idea to have a look at the sort of puzzles we have published to date and make sure yours fits in with the style and level.

Your puzzle can be in any language and on any topic as long as it's programming.

You need to follow our format and explain how the puzzle arises on the first page giving the solution and explanation on the second page.

In general your puzzle should have:

  • A title that indicates what the problem is about
  • Background section describing that the reader needs to know to understand the puzzle
  • Puzzle section describing the puzzle, preferably by showing how code that is working becomes non-working as the result of a change
  • Solution section describing the reason for the problem and the fix to the example
  • Pattern section with a general set of rules to follow that help avoid the problem happening

Submit your Puzzle, or its outline by email to the editor, who is always keen to see your ideas.

Payment of $25 is by PayPal or as an Amazon book token.
