May’s Joomla! Community Magazine is now out, and this month’s editor, Paul Orwig, has some interesting things to say about what the team has learned about openness and transparency following last month’s publication of the Joomla! draft budget. While a draft budget doesn’t sound that exciting, it sparked off what Orwig describes as a ‘lively discussion’, and has resulted in the Joomla! Community Magazine team making a stronger commitment to increased openness and transparency, including making their team email discussions public. Whether this is brave or mad remains to be seen.

One of the interesting articles in this month’s magazine is Nicholas Antimisiaris’ thoughts on how to move Joomla! forward. He points out that while Joomla is open source, the majority of Joomla! volunteers have a strong commercial interest in it so strong feelings on the direction is should take, and there’s a need to work out a way to get a consensus on how it should develop. Meanwhile, Anh Tuan Bui looks at the options available if you want to add an email marketing component to your website, and Robert Vining has a roundup of events and podcasts coming up around the world.

Alongside these features are the usual columns: Designer's Studio, Administrator's Toolkit and Developers Workbench, including a good discussion of making dates on your websites look a bit less boring.
