Conexant Releases Alexa Voice DK For Raspberry Pi

Conexant and Amazon have launched an Alexa Voice Service development kit for the Raspberry Pi 3. The kit includes a voice Input processor with a dual microphone board that you can use to add voice recognition at a distance to Raspberry Pi voice-controlled smart home IoT applications.

The idea behind the kit is that the dual microphones capture the user’s voice from anywhere within the room. The voice input processor separates the voice commands from music and voice prompts being played out of the device, even with background noise present. This is known as 'voice barge-in', and means that your apps can let users get the attention of the Alexa device even when it is playing music or voices. A clean audio signal can then be passed to the AVS cloud for speech recognition processing.

The Conexant AudioSmart 2-Mic Development kit consists of Conexant’s AudioSmart CX20921 Voice Input Processor with a dual microphone board and Sensory’s TrulyHandsfree wake word engine tuned to “Alexa”.

The kit itself looks interesting, and perhaps even more interesting is the news that Amazon says that:

"additional solutions coming in 2017 will deliver fully integrated, high-performance far-field reference designs that make it easier to build and launch products with Alexa. These kits will include an integrated suite of service APIs, client software, chipsets, and voice processing technologies that reduce development costs and accelerate the Alexa integration process."

There's an option to register as an AVS developer to be informed of new reference solutions and designs with Alexa.
