Foxconn officially became part of Mozilla's Firefox OS ecosystem today at a press conference in Taipei at which the first Firefox OS enabled tablet was displayed.

Last week Mozilla broke the news that it was entering into a parntership with Taiwan-based Hon Hai, parent company of Foxconn, the world's largest computer component manufacturer which currently assembles products for Apple -- including the iPhone -- plus Sony and Nokia.

Hon Hai has ambitious plans for Firefox OS and is planning to recruit up to 1,000 technicians.

Referring to the scope of the initiative which encompasses cellphones, tablets and televisions as well as the Internet business and cloud computing.Young Liu, general manager of Foxconn's innovation digital system business group commented:

"Today's agreement is in line with Hon Hai's development guideline of 'Eight screens, one network, and one cloud'."

Liu also said Hon Hai plans to produce five devices running on Firefox but, apart from stating that it would not compete with its existing clients by launching its own brand, declined to give details.

Similarly while the Firefox tablet that had been rumored last week was present at the event no details were given as Foxconn and Mozilla want it to be the responsibility of the OEM to reveal specs in due course.
