Enrollment for the inaugural cohort of the iOS Developer Nanodegree, Udacity's latest industry-led, career-oriented certification programs is now open. But hurry it closes on March 10th.

iOS developers are lucratively paid so, if you've been contemplating breaking into this area, Udacity is just launching a 6-month project-based program that is intended to prepare you for a job in this area.

iOS Developer is the fifth of Udacity's Nanodegrees, a type of credential that Sebastian Thrun announced in June 2014, see Udacity Offers Nanodegrees, saying they are intended as:

a new kind of compact, hands-on, and flexible online curriculum. They are designed to help you effectively learn the most in-demand skills, when you need them, so that you can land your dream job.

A distinctive feature of this credential is that the curriculum has been designed with the help of Udacity's industry partners and takes into account the needs of both employers and prospective employees. For this reason Nanodegrees are project-based and participants work with their peers and advisers on a series of projects, all of which have preparatory classes.

According to Udacity, in the case of iOS developer, participants will:

build five portfolio-worthy iOS apps that demonstrate your expertise as an iOS Developer. You’ll write all of these apps in Swift, Apple’s custom programming language developed specifically for building iOS and OS X apps.

Coming soon

Completing this nanodegree is expected to take 6 to 9 months with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. The prerequisites for joining are:

  • Prior object-oriented programming experience, in any object-oriented language
  • Strong understanding of programming concepts like variables, if statements, and loops, as well as object-oriented programming concepts like functions and classes
  • Access to a Mac computer running OS X 10.9 or later

Enrollment in the program costs $200 per month after a one-week free trial. According to Udacity, the reasons for enrolling in the first cohort of students gives you:

  • “Inaugural Cohort” bragging rights
  • A chance to deeply influence the program: we're constantly improving and rely on your active feedback to make it better. Don’t be shy and speak up!
  • More support from coaches & instructors: they spend extra time with first-cohort students to get extra feedback

But if you can't join on this occasion, cohorts open the first Wednesday of every month, so the next opportunity will be April 1.
