Microsoft has started to send out "Save the Date" invites for a two-day Windows Phone Summit to take place in San Francisco on June 21-22, 2012.

Is it a co-incidence that this event takes place between the two "big" mobile developer events and in the same city?

Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference is scheduled for the week of June 11, and Google's I/O event is from June 27 to 29. Both these events sold out almost immediately so Microsoft is likely to be a bit nervous about the level of demand for its event.

At the moment invitations appear to be restricted to "select Windows Phone programmers" although it seems there will be a formal registration process nearer the time.

As yet there are no details of the topics Microsoft plans to cover at the summit but Tango (the Windows Phone 7.5 OS and Apollo (the codename for Windows Phone OS 8) but seem to be the obvious ones.
