While most people are busy creating journals hosted on the Internet, Springer has just announced a new journal all about the Internet.

Springer has just launched a new journal on all things Internet - the Journal of Internet Services and Applications, JISA covers just about anything that happens on the Internet. Its brief is to cover everything relating to the modern Internet including communications protocols, middleware, distributed services and Internet applications in general.

Clearly the big problem is that with a brief as wide as this almost anything will be possible material and how well it works depends very much on how the editorial board exercise control. There has been a lack of a journal dealing specifically with the Internet and this one could fill the niche.

Its first issue is promising and has to be taken seriously as the preface,  "A half-century makes a difference" has been written by Turing Award winner and Internet pioneer, Vint Cerf.  Doesn't time fly when your enjoying yourself?? The rest of the first issue is also composed of invited papers and so it represents a possible range of topics that the editorial board consider to be appropriate.

There are articles on Cloud computing; using web graphs to detect anomalies; a new approach to searching documents - discard-based search; using mobile devices to collect sensor data; integrating vehicles communication and instrumentation into the Internet; and the convergence of digital TV systems.

You can read all of these for free by downloading the appropriate PDFs.
