Amazon S3 Essentials

Author: Sunil Gulabani
Publisher: Packt Publishing
Pages: 112
ISBN: 978-1783554898

This short book, 90 working pages, split over five chapters. is aimed at developers and architects who need to know how to use Amazon Simple Storage Service, Ian Stirk awarded it 4 stars, saying that:

"the book fulfils its aim of teaching you about Amazon S3 quickly. Ian found the book very easy to read, with plenty of screenshots to support the many step-by-step walkthroughs."

There are useful explanations of what S3 is, and how to use it (via the management console and programmatically), but on balance Ian felt he'd have liked more discussion on its integration with the other Amazon technologies such as EC2.

Cloud Application Architectures: Building Applications and Infrastructure in the Cloud: Transactional Systems for EC2 and Beyond

Author: George Reese
Publisher: O'Reilly
Pages: 204
ISBN: 978-0596156367

Awarding this book 4.5 stars, Mike James says that while there's a lot of rubbish being talked and written about cloud computing, the author of this book knows what he's talking about and wants to make it very clear.

The book is mainly about the management and economic advantages of cloud computing, and presents level headed, experience based, guidance.

Cloud Foundry: The Definitive Guide

Author: Duncan C. E. Winn
Publisher: O'Reilly
Pages: 324
ISBN: 978-1491932438

This is a guide to Cloud Foundry, the open source application platform originally developed by VMWare, and it lives up to its title of being the definitive guide. The book was written by Duncan Winn, who has also written two other books on Cloud Foundry, has a long history working on Cloud Foundry and is obviously a keen advocate of the platform.

Awarding the book 4.5 stars, reviewer Kay Ewbank describes this as:

"a well-written book that covers the topic in detail. If you need to understand Cloud Foundry and how it works, this is a good choice."
