Google Schedules The Android Show: I/O Edition

Google has included an event dedicated to Android to take place one week before Google I/O 2025. It is a special edition of The Android Show on May 13th in which Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem, and the Android team will preview the innovations and new experiences you can expect from Android16.

As outlined in our preview of Google I/O 2025 there are four areas of interest vying for our attention - and given the level of interest in AI it could well be that Android, Cloud and IoT really can't compete either when it comes to inclusion in the main Keynote on May 20th or for being the topic that devs tune into in the subsequent Developer Keynote when there are concurrent sessions on AI, Android, Cloud and IT.

While this trailer doesn't provide any hints, it is likely that the ground to be covered will be much the same as in the Developer Keynote:

  • What's new in Android
Explore new Android 16 features and the future of Android development. Learn how to create delightful, high-quality apps for all form factors (phones, foldables, tablets, wearables, TV, Auto, XR), and the latest APIs for integrating AI experiences in your app. We’ll also cover new ways to improve developer productivity with Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Multiplatform and Gemini in Android Studio.

Presumably not everything will be covered and there will be some teasers to raise expectations for what else might be revealed at Google I/O 2025.

The Android Show is always fun to watch so if you don't already subscribe The Android Show: I/O Edition will be a good place to start. It airs on May 13th at 10:00 PT and you can set a reminder or add it to your calendar now.
