We're fast approaching Panic Weekend, when those of us who've been trying to forget about the upcoming holidays face up to the reality that the present giving season is happening whether we're ready or not. So if you're still in need of some festive ideas, we've come up with a few that might rescue you. So here is our annual mix of weird and wonderful things you might want to give to the geeks and coders in your life. Alternatively, you can send this link to those of your family who have no idea what they can give you in the hope you avoid yet another USB coffee mug heater. I Programmer gets a very small reward if you place an order using the links in this article, but this has in no way affected our choice. The pad has multiple heat levels so you can pick your most comfortable setting. While it can be used on the desk as a mouse pad it can also be used as a foot warmer! The pad will also prompt you to take regular breaks - after using it for an hour, an indicator light will flash 5 times as a reminder.
Levitating magnetic displayHow does your keen coder display their miniature Millennium Falcon, or possibly their coder bear? Levitating magnetic displays work by balancing magnetic repulsion with active electronic control. Sensors detect the floating object's position and electromagnets maintain it so the figure "floats" and rotates. If you know someone who's spending too long either on that important coding task, or getting to their target in their favorite game, a monitor light bar might save them from eye problems. Light bars balance the screen brightness with desk lighting, and don't take up space on the desk, providing glare-free, targeted light on your keyboard and desk without reflecting on the screen. There are loads of models, this one comes with a remote control that integrates multifunction control, and can be used with curved and irregular monitors.
