The Money. The Fame. The Apps

is Nokia's headline to entice you into their camp by way of a competition - yes another competition.

The contest challenges developers to create new apps and games for the new Nokia N8, its new Symbian^3 device and future Nokia devices for consumers in the U.S. and Canada.

This regional emphasis is included in the name "2010 Calling All Innovators North America contest and there is an explicit emphasis on commercial viability with the top criterion being the potential to deliver high Ovi Store downloads and/or purchases by consumers in USA and/or Canada - although an equal number of finalists will be selected for  free apps as for paid for ones.

There are 17 categories - 11 for applications and 6 for  games and 170 apps go forward from the 1st round to the finals.

The rules also exclude ported apps with the stipulation that apps originally published to the Ovi Store for S60 5.0, S60 3.x, and/or Series 40 devices (“Legacy Apps “) are not eligible.

You can build apps for the Nokia N8 using the Nokia Qt SDK, Nokia Web Runtime Plug-Ins, including Adobe Flash Lite 4.0 and Java Runtime which comes with every Nokia device. The submission period is now open and runs to 28th January 2011. Click this link for more information, and a video introducing the new Nokia N8
