A new Microsoft sponsored website that aims to help developers who want to build and release cross browser and cross device Open Web games was launched at JSConf 2012.

Buildnewgames.com is a resource site sponsored by Microsoft and edited and operated by Boucoup, an open web technology company that helps open web technologies to become viable through consulting, training and evangelism. It is intended to help devs write plug-in free games using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.

The site has been launched with five articles:

Each of these articles is relatively long, well-illustrated and essentially hands-on, including code in some cases.

According to the Exploring IE blog announcement the site will grow to 50 articles over the coming months and the Bocoup blog tells us that topics will include mobile games, html5 technology, physics, rendering engines, game design for the open web, input devices, and more.

Microsoft seems to be committed to standards on one level but while IE9 and IE10 have no support for WebGL can you take them seriously? Build new games - yes, but only if they are 2D games or you are prepared to go to the trouble of implementing your own 3D. While some games can be created well in 2D or 2.5D without full 3D support it all looks a bit limited.
