Robot Xmas 2024

Robots have fun at Xmas too. Let's see what impressive videos their masters have created for us this year.

You have to admit that this is a very impressive backflip from Boston Dynamic's all electric Atlas:

... but does anyone else find the bent knee stance a bit surprising in this day and age? Surely robots have learned to stand up straight?

I also have to admit that all of the other robot video I watched this year were frankly disappointing. Robots doing what they did last year and perhaps even the year before that and nothing really new. Which is strange given the advances in AI we are experiencing. You would think that some of it would rub off on the hardware but no. It is very likely that the next big step in AI will come from embodied AI - that is AI in robots - so its absence from this years opportunity so show what they are up to seems to have passed the robot companies by.

So to make up for this let's look at a Boston Dynamics video from two years ago, we missed it then and now we have made up for it.

We may have become bored with Spot and other quadrupeds, but just two years ago they had the power to entertain and impress.
