Project Tango is Google's attempt to create a mobile device that perceives and understands space and motion in the same way as humans do. The current prototype is a 5” Android phone but now Google has announced a 7" tablet. According to Google's Advanced Technology Projects (ATAP) team:

Our 7" development kit is powered by the new NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor packed with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, motion tracking camera, integrated depth sensing, WiFi, BTLE, and 4G LTE (availability will depend on region and carrier).

It points out that the development kits are not a consumer device and will be available only in limited quantities. Developers who purchase a tablet development kit will receive updates as the software algorithms and APIs evolve.

Developers who obtain the Project Tango Tablet Development Kit will be able to make applications that track full 3-dimensional motion and capture surfaces in the environment. The first step is to sign up on the Project Tango site to be notified once it goes on sale later in the year with a price tag of $1024.
