Windows XP Crocs Now On Sale

Fans nostalgic for the -er- good old days of Windows XP can now commemorate them with specially themed Crocs.

The footwear was initially offered as a prize in a sweepstake on Instagram earlier in the year, but Microsoft has now added them on the Microsoft online company store. The footwear is a snip at $79.95. If you're wondering what prompted this, it's apparently part of a fun, limited-run celebration of Microsoft's 50th anniversary.

You'd have thought there might be things Microsoft would be more proud of, things more worthy of putting onto a plastic clog. Maybe Windows for Workgroups (ah, now that WAS an operating system). Visual Basic for Applications? Microsoft Word 2? Excel? Answers on a postcard, please.

Or you could maybe suggest the alternative version for things they're unlikely ever to commemorate, or that might be better on a pack of sick bags. Vista? Bob? Windows ME? MS-DOS 4?  OS/2 for the Mach 20? It's a strong field. I suspect that these days there are plenty of tech support or security people who encounter organizations still running a few old Windows XP machines who would be arguing for XP to be on this list.

Anyway, the Crocs are emblazoned with the blue sky and clouds from the "iconic" Bliss Windows XP wallpaper, with a "soft, grassy green footbed" that apparently mimics the grass.

Along with the clogs, purchasers get a six-pack of Microsoft Jibbitz, which are charms you stick on to ensure your clogs catch more mud. The choice includes Clippy, the MSN butterfly, the classic Internet Explorer, a file folder, recycle bin, and cursor. No mention of the 'classic' Windows egg timer of doom indicating that your machine has crashed again and you're going to have to restart.

Microsoft is also bundling a Windows XP-themed drawstring collectors bag in the $79.95 purchase.

If you're tempted, you need to be quick, as the Crocs are only available until mid November.
