Microsoft has released version 1.3 of the Community Toolkit for .NET MAUI. The announcement follows the official release of the .NET MAUI Framework in the release version of Visual Studio 2022 in August. NET MAUI is the .NET Multi-platform App UI, a framework for building native device applications spanning mobile, tablet, and desktop. The .NET MAUI Community Toolkit is a collection of reusable elements for application development with .NET MAUI, including animations, behaviors, converters, effects, and helpers. It can be used for iOS, Android, macOS and WinUI applications using .NET MAUI, and is available as a set of NuGet Packages. The advantage offered by MAUI is that developers can create a single project that works on multiple targets. Any platform-specific assets are placed in sub-folders, and the developer can focus on writing shared UI and code. The version of MAUI included in Visual Studio has been updated with improvements including Maps and DualScreen to fill two gaps for mobile developers upgrading from Xamarin, along with desktop features for tooltips, right-click, hover, window size, and context menus. Other improvements for developing MAUI apps in Visual Studio 2022 include a XAML Live Preview that lets developers see XAML markup rendered in Visual Studio as a window. IntelliCode has also been improved to make XAML markup suggestions. The Community Toolkit is based on the Xamarin Community Toolkits, and contains .NET MAUI Extensions, Advanced UI/UX Controls, Effects, and Behaviors. The latest release adds status bar styling functionality, Gravatar image support, prebuilt fade animations and SourceLink support, as well as fixing some of the numerous bugs that were a problem in the initial release. A Gravatar is a Globally Recognized avatar, an image that can be used as your avatar, and this release of the toolkit lets developers display Gravatar images next to people’s names or email addresses via the GravatarImageSource. .NET MAUI Community Toolkit is available now.
