All JetBrains AI tools, including the coding agent Junie and its  improved AI Assistant are now available within its IDEs under a single subscription and come with a free tier.

JetBrains recently launched the 2025.1 versions of its raft of IDEs which now come with in-built AI with a free tier for using both Junie, and the AI Assistant.

JetBrains regards these two products as complementary. While AI Assistant provides code-related help and AI suggestions,  Junie is an agent capable of multi-step tasks, including writing code and running tests.

We met Junie, JetBrain's AI coding agent, when it was launched for early access preview at the end of January. As with other agentic AI tools, it can be instructed to perform many routine programming tasks and can collaborate when working on more complex tasks. Initially it was restricted to users of IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate or PyCharm Professional in conjunction with Linux or MacOS. Now it is available to all users of JetBrain's IDEs

According to JetBrains:

With the combined power of JetBrains IDEs, coupled with Anthropic’s Claude and Open AI LLMs, Junie is already able to solve problems that would otherwise require hours of work.

See JetBrains Junie - An AI Coding Agent for details of its features.

JetBrains has also announced major upgrades to the AI Assistant. The new version includes improvements designed to help developers improve their coding process with improved code completion and greater context awareness for more accurate suggestions. A new edit mode enables multi-file edits from the chat interface.

Assistant also comes with more AI model options, including support for newer models including OpenAI’s GPT-4.5, Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet and Google LLC’s Gemini 2.5 Pro. It also improves local model integration for developers who need greater privacy and control. Overall the update is intended to provide:

“smarter support across the entire workflow, from code generation and testing to documentation and debugging.”

As regards the options for pricing, for individuals, the AI Free plan provides:

Unlimited code completion and local AI support, plus a small cloud credit quota – ideal for getting started or occasional use.

New users on the free tier also get 30 days of AI Pro access.  This costs $10 per month or $100 if billed yearly. AI Pro is included in the new All Products Pack subscription, which costs individuals $28.90 per user per month. This pack includes 12 IDEs, 3 extensions, 2 profilers, and a collaborative development service.
