There's a new collection of free videos on C#, .NET and ASP.NET by Scott Hanselman, Microsoft Principal Community Architect for Web Platform and Tools. The collection is made of of nearly a hundred short videos (with more to come!) that will teach topics like C# 101, .NET, making desktop apps, making ASP.NET web apps, learning containers and Dockers, or even starting with Machine Learning. Many of the videos are aimed at beginners and take the topic nice and slowly. Most are less than 10 minutes long and all are organized into Playlists on YouTube.
More unusual videos in the beginners section include not just the machine learning topic, but Xamarin 101, Getting started with Entity Framework Core, and .NET for Apache Spark. Most of the series have eight episodes, and as an example, the .NET Core series starts from the 'what is .NET Core?' level, and episodes include basic debugging, adding a class library, using a Nuget package, unit testing and publishing an app.
In addition to YouTube, the videos can also be viewed on Microsoft's Channel 9, or alternatively can be downloaded locally via Channel 9's RSS feed.Hanselman has also written a blog post detailing how to download the videos for local use, with a PowerShell script to automate the process for a series. Scott recommends starting with these three series in this order - C#, .NET, then ASP.NET. Scott Hanselman is a well know writer and speaker on the conference circuit.He says that the videos in the current collection are just the start, and if you there are other topics you'd like to see covered to let him know. He says the team is just getting started and already have intermediate and advanced C# classes in the works.
