Wing Python 9 has been released with support for support for Python 3.11 and optimizations to the debugger among the improvements.

Wing Python is an IDE with an intelligent editor and debugger that is designed to make interactive Python development fast, accurate, and fun. Wing comes in three versions, a paid-for version with extra features, and a free Python IDE for students and hobbyists that omits the more advanced features of Wing Pro.

The improvements to the new release start with support for Python 3.11.  The Wing Python team says this means Wing Python developers can benefit from the latest version's substantially improved performance and new features such as improved Type variables and support for TOML configuration parsing.

wing9's debugger has been optimized

The debugger in Wing 9 has been optimized, and the developers day this reduces debugger overhead by between 20 and 50 percent in Python 3.7+, though they do note that just how much performance improvement you'll see depends on the nature of the code that is being debugged and the Python version that you're using.

The handling of light and dark themes is another area to have been improved. Wing 9 lets you configure a light and dark theme independently to make it easier to switch between light and dark modes. Two new light themes, New Light and Faerie Storm, have also been added, and the Wing Python team says that switching display modes should be faster and smoother visually.

Other Improvements include better display for methods of super(), including the display of auto-invocation arguments. A number of issues affecting code analysis and multi-threaded debugging have been fixed, and there's improved keyboard navigation of Search in Files results.
Wing will also now run on Qt 6.3.

Wing Python 9.0.2 is available for download now.
