JetBrains is hosting JavaScript Day on October 2nd with all presentations being streamed live on You Tube, where they will remain available after the event. And anyone interested in the JavaScript ecosystem should take the time to complete the 2025 State Of JS survey from Devographics which has opened earlier than usual this year. Every year since 2016 the State of JS survey has presented a wealth of detail about the JavaScript ecosystem. You may be surprised to discover that it has already opened since last year it ran during November and December but it seems a good idea to bring it forward in order to give more time for analysing the data. The organizers, Devographics, have also announced that this year they are bringing the back-end section back so that respondents can give their opinion on their favorite Node.js frameworks. This survey's goals are to are to measure awareness and popularity of JavaScript features and libraries in order to anticipate future trends. It is targeted at anybody who uses JavaScript (or TypeScript), whether regularly or occasionally, as part of their job, as a student, or just for fun and filling it out should take around 15-20 minutes. If you've not come across it before you can follow the links to our reports on previous surveys.
JavaScript Day was inaugurated in 2021 and in its fifth year retains the same format, nine talks of 30 minutes each, starting at 9:00 am EDT, which is 13:00 UTC. This year the line up is:
I'll definitely try to catch the talks on Modern JavaScript Tooling and the New User Interaction Model. I'll also be recommending the session on Bun to my colleague Kay Ewbank who has followed the project since it began and suggest to Sue Gee that she listens in to the final talk for an insider's perspective on open source. The title that is obviously controversial is the one from Jan-Niklas Wortmann and from its blurb it's about WebStorm, the IDE I first looked at for I Programmer when it was launched in 2010. The talk is billed as: "a behind-the-scenes look at how JetBrains actually makes product decisions" It promises, "direct, unfiltered answers" so if you have any beef with JetBrain's be there to ask questions. Questions are welcome for all the talks, but if you can't be there on the day they will all be available after the event.
